Julian-Opie
Julian Opie
London, 1958
Biography:
British artist interested in Sculpture, Painting, Engraving and Installation. He studied at Goldsmiths College of Art in London between 1979 and 1982. Regarded as one of the young promising British Art of the Eighties, and still a student, was invited to show at the Lisson Gallery (1982) along with a group of artists including Anish Kapoor and Keith Haring. A year later he exhibited in the same gallery. His metal Sculptures with everyday utensils painted on the surface, help to cement his reputation in the early Eighties. At the beginning of the next decade, he begins to make wooden buildings painted white that challenge the boundaries between Painting and Sculpture. Usually employs a minimalist and essential aesthetic economy reminiscent of the early computer images or logos advertising.
