Biography:
Luis Gordillo was born in Seville in 1934.
He graduated in Law at the Faculty of Seville in 1956, after which he decided to devote himself to painting, attending the College of Fine Arts of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, in Seville, 1956-1958.
In 1958 he traveled to Paris where he discovers the informal.
In 1959, in Seville, offers his first solo exhibition, but returned to Paris, where he remained nearly two years.
On his return to Spain makes his second exhibition in Seville in 1962 and later established his residence in Madrid.
At the end of that year began to appear in his figurative drawings that will be stepping up closer to Pop Art
In 1963 began a psychoanalysis, as Gordillo himself has consistently claimed it was very important in building aesthetics of his work.
In 1968, shows the evolution from a figurative pop to the geometric figuration through his work Motorists.
In 1970 he was invited to participate in the Venice Biennale.

The end of the seventies it is a stage of profound crisis, during which he made very anarchic drawings stylistically, which would be the basis of recovery of the painting, with a new sense of color and a background ironic.
In 1974 his first retrospective exhibition at the Art Center M-11 in Seville.
In 1975 he moved to live in the country, where he conducted an intensive experimental work that will attest to their next exhibition, which will provide recognition of his work at national level.
Of particular importance was his participation in the 1976 Venice Biennale and, above all, the omnibus in the Chambers of the National Library in 1977.
In 1982 he was awarded the National Prize of Plastic Arts. That same year he undertook a new analysis that lasted for over twenty years.
In 1993, the IVAM in Valencia has organized a major retrospective of his work in the eighties with which Gordillo tried to shift critical attention in the sixties and seventies to his later work.
In 1994 presented optical discomfort, discomfort epic, a milestone in their work and received further distinctions, including the Prize of Plastic Arts CEOE, the Gold Medal for Fine Arts in 1996, and Francisco de Goya Award Community of Aragon in 2004.
