Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary Islands, Spain) 17th January of 1926 - Madrid 14th August of 1972.

 

Biography:

Spanish painter. Overall in his career a strong identity remains insular. Influenced by surrealism, Klee and Miro, his first "Pictographs" themed typical Guanche are marked by his constant interest in anthropology. Develop a key role in renewing the artistic atmosphere of the islands with the creation of avant-garde group Ladac (1950), while maintaining close contact and participate in initiatives of the same sign occur in the peninsula, as was the School of Altamira (1948). In 1955 he moved to Madrid and began to paint in a style very close to a violent informality. In 1957 he participated in founding the group El Paso. The interest in the subject and its textures takes you to create your first "Patchwork" in introducing sand and wood. Her paintings, in a limited chromatic black, white and red, are perforated and studded with knots, "battered" to express the cynicism and violence of mankind and society of his time. In the late sixties, his style becomes calmer,are cleared and smoothed colors and graphics.
